Special Art by Special Kids
Artist Reception Saturday, June 2nd, 12 noon to 4pm.

When you work with children everyday, you learn to appreciate their strengths and their differences. It is always a gentle surprise to see the gifts and talents that children with special needed exhibit.

Last year, my student Nathan Augelli, drew on everything in sight and displayed a genuine talent for combining colors and patterns into beautiful pieces of art. Recognizing his talent led to the realization that there needed to be a venue to show people Nathan’s talent, as well as the talent of the many children with special needs in our schools. The result is:

“Special Art by Special Kids.”

Peggy Morris a Wilson county teacher in Special Education, along with Nathan's mother, Mar Augelli, an artist and active member of the Nashville Arts Community, organized the First Annual “Special Art by Special Kids” The Show has now become an Annual Event for Wilson County and is dedicated to the Memory of Katie Hall, a talented and caring teacher, who enriched the lives of all children with disabilities. This year's Wilson County Annual Event "Special Art by Special Kids" will travel to Nashville for another showing at Plowhaus Artist Cooperative in East Nashville. The show will grow to include the art of students with Special needs from, Davidson County and Sumner County as well. Many of the students in Special Educations, teachers and parents will be attending the reception along with Nathan. Who was diagnosed with Autism at an early age, Nathan does not speak, but his Art speaks volumes of things, he does not verbally express, such as, colors, shapes and patterns, suggesting the essence of rainbows, sunrises and sunsets, beautifully expressing the emotions that he must feel in the World as Nathan hears and sees it. Nathan has truly found his voice through his Art and what a lovely sound he makes.

Saturday, June 2nd. The Community is invited to attend an Artist Reception at the Plowhaus Saturday, June 2nd from 12 noon to 4pm.

From I-24 at Shelby Avenue, near the LP Coliseum in downtown Nashville, take Shelby Avenue away from downtown to 17th Street. Turn left onto South 17th.The Plowhaus is located on your right at 211 South 17th Street.
