"ONE WALL ONE ARTIST SHOW - FOURPLAY"

OPEN: June 3rd - June 18th, 2006

ARTISTS' RECEPTION: June 3rd, 2006
TIME: 7pm - 11pm

Plowhaus is proud to present "FOURPLAY", the second "One Wall One Artist" Show of 2006.  "One Wall One Artist" Shows consist of four artists, who have one wall each measuring 25 feet to hang their work.  Each artist curates and installs his or her own individual space.

Read a brief statement about each artist:

Samantha Callahan relocated from Pittsburgh to Nashville ten years ago to pursue a career in the medical field.  Her previous medical laboratory experience influences much of her artwork today. The inquisitive nature of her work explores female medical conditions, body issues, and chronic pain.  Her most recent series of paintings, Modified Flowers, were produced based on photos and technical illustrations of flowers, research of the healing properties of flowering plants, and images and research of female body modification.  The flowers represented in the paintings were chosen because of their medicinal properties relating to the female reproductive system.  The floral images are modified in various ways to symbolize women's choices and responsibilities regarding their own bodies.  The Modified Flowers series consists of mixed media paintings on texturized wood and canvas.  The bold shapes, vibrant colors, and clean lines of the work contrast with the delicate floral images.

Eric Denton was born in Minnesota and was raised in the Nashville area from the age of seven. He attended and graduated from Tennessee Tech with a Marketing degree. "Just prior to graduation, I knew that I had no desire to pursue marketing and sales jobs. I job surfed for a while and finally found something I love: Graphic Design!" He has been working as a Designer both professionally and personally for 3 years now, and has big plans for the future. He is an active member of local art groups including Plowhaus Artists' Cooperative, UNTITLED Nashville, and SNAP.
He learned photography through 5+ years of trial and error, and enjoyed learning on his own. "Photography has always been very important to me, and I love experimenting and learning more about the medium while pushing myself creatively."  He enjoys seeing people react to his work, whether it's a smile, a cocking of the head or even a furrowed brow. "Any reaction is good, and initial reactions tell it all!  At least you are looking!"

Chris McDermott is a 27 year old artist, currently living in Nashville , whose style, subject matter, and media cover a wide array.  Although a Texas native, he has spent most of his life in the Nashville area.  Chris attended the University of the South in Sewanee , TN, where he graduated with a BA in Studio Art in 2000.
In his latest work, a series of mixed media installation pieces entitled MAGIC PAINT-The Artists’ Secret: Works in progress, McDermott transports the viewer into his artistic fantasy by creating the illusion that the laws of reality no longer apply to the art making process.  These pieces also attempt to explore the nature of our fast-paced culture through the magnifying glass of the artist’s desires.

Ben C. Vitualla produces uniform sized, mixed media works on wood, which consist of familiar symbols, images and materials.  "I found myself creating images that reflect my experiences with people and my environment."  The new series of work will display these two themes which play an intricate part in his art making process.  The work will provoke dialogue within the viewer and a sense of understanding in how he sees the world. Ben is continuing to explore the uncertainty around him with images of childhood, culture, and adulthood to better understand his past, present and future.

This show is up for 3 weekends until June 18th.
