PLANNING:
One strategy that has worked well in the past is to designate
or select a show coordinator to ensure all duties are completed.
This coordinator will help make sure each task is covered
and that there is a reasonable deadline for its completion.
The coordinator will not complete all the tasks him or herself,
but rather follow-up with the rest of the group to make
sure everything is done.
The group should meet to agree on:
1. Which wall is yours. Measure the walls. The walls
and panels can be configured anyway you want/agree upon.
2. Who is doing the poster design, what needs to be on the
poster, who will work with the printer to get posters printed,
and how posters will be distributed (among members, friends,
etc.) in order to get them hung around town.
We have been using Jive for our printing needs lately (franne
has contact)
3. Who will prepare a press release including a little one
line bio/statement from each artist.
--- All press releases need to
be at the papers AT LEAST 2 weeks before publication
to guarantee it being listed.
--- Email the release to plowhaus-press@lists.michaelchaney.com.
You should also prepare a modified version to send to the
various listserves as well as your personal contacts. The
Press Release Timeline
and email addresses we already have set up for different
lists are on the Press Release
Timeline page.
--- JPEGS of the work should accompany
the press release. These are typically sent at 300 dpi.
4. Who will coordinate food and drink.
5. Who will print the title blocks and artist statements
6. Who will work the gallery for the weekends.
7. Deadlines for the completion of these tasks.
8.The Coordinator should collect each artist’s $100 at the
meeting and turn it in to the Plowhaus Treasurer.
This money will go towards:
1. posters and
or cards up to $50.
2. wine, cups.
3. paint, and
anything else to clean up the walls.
4. space operating
expenses. (i.e.: rent and utilities)
9.Each artist is responsible
for their wall to prepare (patch and paint; if not before
then after show) & hang.
All Plowhaus resources are available to assist you in your
endeavor. The group Coordinator should contact Show &
Volunteer Coordinators to determine what assistance you
will need.
